Very interesting look at the Democrat's big dillemma. The way their party is structured gives disproportionate power and influence to the anti-war forces, a movement which is revolting to the mainstream of American, and even mainstream Democratic, voters. I personally feel they wont be able to overcome this problem and the schism is only going to get worse until the party either collapses or is forced to restructure itself along more inclusive lines.
If you're interested in an extraordinary overview of how the Democrats got themselves into this mess, read Theodore H. White's The Making of the President: 1972. You can literally see the nation's oldest and most powerful political force hurl itself over a cliff, its like watching a train wreck in slow motion. Then read The Making of the President: 1968, which will you tell why all those who should have known better were powerless to stop it.
