The Danes do it again. Few people outside the Jewish world know that Denmark was the only country in Europe that put up serious resistance to the Nazi Holocaust, and in fact organized a massive resistance movement that smuggled almost the entire Jewish population to Sweden, which was not under German occupation. Basically the entire Jewish population of Denmark survived the war, an extraordinary accomplishment. The entire country has a monument on the Avenue of the Righteous at Yad Vashem, the major Holocaust museum in Israel. When I was in Europe a few years ago, Denmark was the only place where I felt comfortable and where I didn't hesitate to answer when people asked if I was Jewish. They deserve a better continent to live in. God bless 'em.
