Alongside but separate from the Histadrut, a new socialist ideology is sprouting, nurtured by the ideology of left-wing academic circles. The bearers of this ideological flag are disgusted with the basic values that have been guiding the Israeli economy ever since it backed down from the historic Mapai party's vision of "socialism in our day" - a free, competitive economy that is open to the world and in which the government's role is supposed to be limited to security matters and the assurance of a reasonable level of welfare for citizens who truly need it.

---Absolutely, some of these fools are my professors, and believe me, not one of them took and Economics class in his life. But of course, their obvious moral and intellectual superiority entitles them to dictate to the rest of us lower orders exactly how much money were allowed to make.
