"They were determined to avoid giving Hussein time to launch missiles with chemical warheads against Israel and its Arab neighbors, torch Iraq's oil fields or launch new massacres that would send waves of Iraqi refugees fleeing into Turkey and elsewhere. They have been largely successful in these objectives so far."

Jim Hoagland on the war's progress. It is highly significant that the media has ignored the main successes of the war so far; namely that neither Israel, the Shiites, or most especially the Kurds have been the targets of massive Iraqi attack. From where I'm sitting, and I hope I'm not speaking prematurely here, since I am, of course, in the firing line, this is no small accomplishment.
